"Sounds of Freedom" is the theme of the annual Oakville celebration of Independence day.
Each year since the mid-1950s Oakville has celebrated the nation's independence with a parade and recently added a wild west rodeo and reenactment of the last Washington state horseback bank robbery.
This years celebration will take place on July 3. The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. sharp. The reenactment of the horseback bank robbery and the rodeo follow the parade.
This year the parade will celebrate the "Sounds of Freedom" with 2 marching bands, show vehicles, marching units, western riders, military vehicles and more!

The Department of Washington American Legion Band (established in 1925) will lead the parade. This band has received national, state and district American Legion awards.
The Litchfield Marching Band has been established for years as one of Minnesota's premier street marching bands. The band has won numerous awards in Minnesota and out of state competitions.
The Oakville Chamber of Commerce sponsors the parade each year. Interested organizations can contact the Chamber at 360-273-2702.

Other Information: The Litchfield Marching Band has been on of Minnesota's Premier parade marching bands. We are happy to be with you for your celebration this summer. The marching band has traveled throughout the United States and Canada, and this summer we will be traveling to Seattle and Oakville Washington. In the 2003 season we received Grand Champion in Benson, Roseville, and Foley Minnesota. The Marching Dragons received best High School Marching Band, beating the representative from Texas and New Mexico. The marching band's parade schedule for 2004 includes Windom, Benson, Waconia, Hutchinson, Foley, Willmar, Alexandria, and Roseville.
The Department of Washington American Legion Band was established in 1925 by the Olympia Post 3 of the American Legion. It was also designated as the official band of the state American Legion Department shortly thereafter. In 1998, Post 3 relinquished sponsorship of the band to the Washington Department.
Now in its eightieth year of continuous operation, the band performs at more than twenty events each year. It is a popular participant in festivals in various South Sound communities and at the Thurston County fair.
The band has marched in the Olympia pet parade each year since the event was started. It also has played at the Olympia Yacht Club boating season opening celebration each year since 1925. Over the years, the band has received numerous awards for participating in national, state and district american legion conventions.
The band is currently under the direction of Jerry Huff. The assistant director is Andy Omdahl. They are the thirteenth and fourteenth musical leaders of the band in its lengthy history.
