Oakville Independence Day Parade
Oakville has been the proud host of this event for over half a century!
From July 4, 1776 to July 4, 2009 help us celebrate "The Declaration of Independence". Oakville will celebrate with a grand parade on Saturday, July 4th, 2009. Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is at once the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson's most enduring monument.
The parade will start at 11:00 a.m., sharp, on July 4th. We plan to have horses, bloats, clowns, bands and all the wonderful entries that make up a great Amercian parade.
We're hoping for a rodeo, and we are counting on the "Last Horseback Bank Robbery Reenactment" taking place at 12 noon.
We'd love to have you join us!
Our parade entry form is simple to prepare. Please take a minute and print out page one (about your entry) and then print out, and complete page two (info about your group for the announcer). When you are done, please mail them to the address on the form.
The 2008 parade is now history. We had a great parade and wonderful support from local merchants and the City of Oakville.
The winner's list is is online now. You'll find links there to some photos of the entrants.
In 2008 the theme was: "Celebrating our Constitution". A short history lesson is in order: July 2, 1788 - "A formal announcement is made by the president of Congress that the Constitution of the United States is now in effect, having been ratified by the required nine states."
A new Congress will convene in 1889, but the Constitution had already been in effect. We are now celebrating the 220th anniversary of the most powerful document created by free men.
The 2007 theme honored Our Nation's Flag. This was the 230th anniversary of a Congressional Resolution on
June 14, 1777 in which the Continental Congress adopted the following:
Resolved: that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.
The parade was on July 7, 2007.
The parade is now history. The winner list is online now. You will find links there to some photos of a few entrants. The Chronicle filed this parade story
